The owner of a private collection is looking for a cataloger to assist in cataloging the collection of fine art, decorative art, and collectibles. The cataloguer will interface with the collection manager, who will guide the process, monitor inventory progress, and provide support for technical questions.
• Inspect objects, and make a note of edition, dimensions, date, title, markings, medium, and labels.
• Research exhibition records and history of artworks.
• Work with collection manager on inventorying and appraisal assignments.
• Prepare preliminary condition reports.
• Arrange art transportation and conservation.
• Have a calm demeanor.
• Professional standards for handling artworks.
• Sensitivity to a residential work environment.
• Prioritize projects for the collection owner and her daughter.
Skills & Experience
• Experience in a cataloger or registrar position preferred.
• B.A. in Art History or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Auction House or arts-related experience is required.
• Detailed observation.
• Adaptability to priorities.
• Ability to work independently.
• Exceptional organizational and project implementation skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office is necessary.
