Reporting to the Dean of the School of Jazz and Contemporary Music (SJCM), the Program and Administration Manager manages a number of SJCM program initiatives, oversees office administration, and leads special projects initiated by the Dean. The Program and Administration Manager also works across the entire College of Performing Arts on a range of projects and curricular collaborations.

The School of Jazz and Contemporary Music, founded in 1986, is one of the most influential institutions of its kind. The quality and uniqueness of the school lie in its artist-as-mentor approach to learning, its progressive curriculum, small ensemble-based performance, a stellar faculty composed of artist-practitioners, and access to unique musical opportunities throughout New York City. Notable faculty include Reggie Workman, Jane Ira Bloom, Anat Cohen, Mary Halvorson, Fay Victor, Julian Lage, Allison Miller, and Jimmy Owens. Recent guest faculty and guest lecturers include Cassandra Wilson, Randy Weston, Geri Allen, George Lewis, Marc Ribot, Fred Wesley, Pat Metheny, Joshua Redman, Pauline Oliveros, Don Byron, Ben Sidran, Tommy LiPuma and George Wein.

This is an onsite position with opportunities for some remote work throughout the year. Some nights and weekends are required.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Oversee the Jazz BFA and MM: Performer-Composer Lessons Program, including the recruitment and hiring of part time teaching staff
- Oversee the College of Performing Arts Gig Office
- Execute strategic academic initiatives including collaborations with Bern Jazz Festival, Monterey Jazz Festival, and key partnerships with organizations including the Center for Jazz Studies in Tel Aviv, the Global Association of Interconnected Arts, and the International Association of Schools of Jazz among others
- Assist in the planning and execution of special events, public events, donor events, and community gatherings (town halls, faculty meetings, etc.)
- Hire, engage, and oversee student and faculty workers to provide general administrative and clerical support at SJCM
- Work across the college and in collaboration with the university’s Office of Research and Decision Support to maintain and provide reports on enrollment, faculty teaching history, demographic data, and other areas that support strategic decision-making
- Provide counsel, advice, support, and guidance to the Dean on a range of strategic and operational issues
- Collaborate with the Dean and Strategic Enrollment Management to plan auditions, admissions and recruitment events, interviews, campus tours, class visits, scholarship and admission committees, and other admission and recruitment activities and events

Minimum Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in arts administration, business administration, the performing arts, or a related field
- One year of experience in arts, nonprofit, and/or higher education administration
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; the ability to present complex information to various audiences
- Experienced or able to learn and develop fluency in The New School’s suite of data systems including WorkDay, Tableau, Banner, and 25Live.
- Demonstrated commitment to Equity, Inclusion, Social Justice, and the transformative power of the arts and education
- Ability to adhere to University COVID-19 Policy and requirements.
