Mackin Projects is hiring for an esteemed visual artist who is seeking a full-time Registrar for his NYC Midtown studio. The Registrar is responsible for supporting both the Chief of Staff and Production Manager in the organization and caring for all artworks created by the artist. This individual must be detail-oriented and able to multitask in a fast-paced multidisciplinary artist’s studio. The position requires the ability to effectively communicate in person, via phone, and by email ensuring that all duties are completed accurately and delivered. This person is expected to deliver with high quality and in a timely manner while using experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals with a wide degree of creativity and latitude. This position reports to the Chief of Staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Registrar will be responsible for supporting the Chief of Staff and the Production Manager in the handling, documentation, and filing of all artworks.
Tasks include:
- Maintaining artwork inventory - both physical and digital records
- Overseeing preparation, packaging, and shipment of artworks
- Managing international transportation and customs procedures of artworks
- Following up on the location of works, and communicating with shippers, art handlers, suppliers, storage handlers, insurers, and customs officer
- Reviewing and filing shipping condition reports when necessary
- Maintaining the studio’s online art database to track sales information and location
- Managing the installation and de-installation calendar for exhibitions
- Managing and overseeing loans of artwork to other institutions
- Caring for and preserving all works of art in inventory
- Preparing checklists for exhibitions
- Overseeing inventory management + storage logistics
- Assisting with exhibitions and art fair logistics
- Oversee image requests, and send hi-resolution images to press and publishers
Required Qualifications:
He or she must have previous registrar or preparator experience in an artist’s studio, a fine art gallery, or a creative field. The individual must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, a professional demeanor, and a strong interest in the arts. This position requires a flexible personality and the ability to work well within a group, as well as, independently.
- A minimum of 3 + years of proven registrar experience
- A Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Art Administration, Art History, or related field
- Proven skills in Art/Databases - Art Logic or similar, Google Sheets & Docs, Dropbox, and Excel
- Able to multitask in a fast-paced work environment
- A confident and articulate team player with excellent problem-solving skills
- Well-organized, punctual, and meticulously detail-oriented is an absolute must
- Interest in contemporary art and studio practice
- Ability to lift 50lbs if needed for moving art objects in the studio
This is a Monday-Friday 10-6 pm position with very occasional weekends for installations.
