2022 METROPOLITAN OPERA OREGON DISTRICT AUDITIONS

The 69th Metropolitan Opera Oregon District Laffont Competition (formerly National Council MONC) will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2023 - 1pm at PSU’s Lincoln Performance Hall 1320 SW Broadway in Portland, Oregon. These Metropolitan Opera Oregon District Auditions are open to the public and for an opera lover they are the best entertainment in town! Where else can one hear 30 to 40 arias drawn from the entire operatic repertoire in one day?

This year’s Oregon District Audition judges are Jennifer Ringo, Aaron Grant and Markus Beam. The Metropolitan Opera Oregon District Auditions winners will go to the Regional Auditions held in Seattle on Sunday, February 26, 2023 The winners from the Seattle Regional auditions are New York City - Lincoln Center bound – where 26 finalists from all over the USA will compete – and finally, on April 23, 2023 the Grand Finalists will perform with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra at Lincoln Center in New York.

The Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition sponsors auditions in forty-one Districts and fourteen Regions throughout this country, Puerto Rico and Canada. Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition continues to search for the best young vocal talent and these auditions are an excellent way for singers to be heard not only by the Metropolitan Opera, but by the many professionals in the opera business who judge the auditions in all parts of the country with the intend “to identify future Luciano Pavarottis and Renée Flemings". The value of these auditions goes far beyond the prize money - it is an opportunity for talent recognition, individual advisement and career advancement. Former Audition winners represent a choice sample of important artists appearing on The Met stage including: Angela Meade, Renée Fleming, Ben Heppner and Deborah Voigt among many others.
