Gander & White is currently seeking a Crate Shop Technician to join the team at our U.S. headquarters in New York City. POSITION SUMMARY: New York City Warehouse Facility
The primary responsibility of the Crate Shop Technician is, as a part of the Crate Shop team, building crates and other containers and accessories for the safe storage and transport of artworks ranging from paintings, works on paper, sculpture to design objects, antiques and furniture. This position is located at our Long Island City warehouse facility. The position reports to the Crate Shop Team Leader and the Packing & Crating Supervisor.

RESPOSIBILITIES:
• Knowledge and experience of carpentry methods, techniques, and materials
• Safe operation of the tools and equipment related to the building of fine art crates including table saw, radial arm saw, pneumatic nailers/staplers, power drills, power sanders and other power and hand tools
• Read and process shop drawings and cut sheets; execute such plans accurately and on time
• Maintain production of crates and company quality standards
• Maintain the cleanliness and order of the crate shop and associated warehouse areas
• Produce a variety of crates, containers, and accessories to a variety of design specifications

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Previous experience working in a crate shop or other high-volume woodshop
• Knowledge of standard woodworking tools, techniques, and methods
• Knowledge of general shop safety
• Attention to detail and a focus on craftsmanship
• Strong work ethic and pride in one’s work
• Ability to effectively work in a team setting as well as self-directed
• Ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines
• Good communication skills
• Knowledge of archival materials, museum crating, and packing considered a plus
• Ability to stand for long periods of time
• Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted
